HK halts import of poultry meat and products from certain US areas
In 9M23, HK imported 21,740 tonnes of chilled and frozen poultry meat from the US.
Hong Kong has suspended the import of poultry meat and products from certain US areas amidst outbreaks of the highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza.
Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety (CFS) said the suspension will have immediate effect.
"The CFS has contacted the American authority over the issue and will closely monitor information issued by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and the relevant authorities on the avian influenza outbreaks. Appropriate action will be taken in response to the development of the situation," the spokesman said.
In 9M23, Hong Kong imported 21,740 tonnes of chilled and frozen poultry meat and 57.11 million poultry eggs from the United States.
