Cathay Pacific inspects entire A350 fleet amidst engine issues

The fleet has a total of 48 A350 aircraft.

Cathay Pacific canceled 24 return flights operating from 2 to 3 September to inspect its entire Airbus A350 fleet of 48 aircraft following the identification of an engine component failure.

Cathay Pacific said the component was the first of its type to suffer such a failure on any A350 aircraft worldwide. The airline contacted the aircraft and engine manufacturers, as well as regulators, to assist with the inspection.

However, some aircraft will be out of service for several days during this process, affecting Cathay Pacific’s operating schedules. Affected customers have been provided with alternate travel arrangements.

“Upon completion, the aircraft cleared for operation will return to service, while those identified with technical issues will undergo further repair and maintenance work. Meanwhile, we are liaising with the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department and the aircraft and engine manufacturers. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding,” Keith Brown, Cathay Director Engineering said.
