Airfreight fall continues in November
Cargo traffic at Hong Kong International Airport dove again in November to 6.6% year-on-year, continuing a trend that began early in 2011.
November’s drop from the previous year, however, was better than the 8.2% year-over-year reduction in October. Export volume fell 8.6% year-on-year, but outbound tonnage inched up 1% from the month before.
November’s tonnage was also the highest level since March. Analysts said this might mean that a few shippers were rushing to restock shelves after postponing shipping in a troubled economy.
There were 6.8% fewer freighter operations in November year-on-year and 4.8% fewer over the past six months than the same period in 2010.
