Dubai beats Hong Kong International Airport in busiest airport ranking
HKIA slipped to 4th place.
Hong Kong International Airport slid to fourth place as DIA continued its ascent as one of the world’s busiest airports. DIA was the 99th largest international airport 11 years ago and is expected to overtake London’s Heathrow as the world’s busiest in 2015.
HKIA said that its passenger traffic increased 4.7% to 56.5 million people last year. This compares to DIA’s 57.6 million people, a 13% rise year-on-year.
The world’s largest Airbus A380 facility opened at DIA’s Terminal 3 early this January, while the airport’s freight capacity is due to be expanded by 25% to 1.5 million tonnes by 2018.
Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffith said the international airport would soon become the busiest in the world.
