CAD assists in Cathay Pacific’s A350 fleet inspection after engine failure
The department is closely monitoring the inspection’s progress.
The Civil Aviation Department (CAD) has been in contact with Cathay Pacific's management following the discovery of an engine component failure on an A350 aircraft bound for Zurich on 2 September.
Cathay Pacific inspected its fleet of 48 Airbus A350 aircraft after identifying the engine component failure, which led to the cancellation of 24 return flights from 2 to 3 September.
The department has closely monitored the airline's response to the incident, deploying staff to inspect the affected engine and oversee the airline's on-site inspection of its A350 fleet.
On 3 September, the department met with Cathay Pacific Airways' engineering management to gather updates on the investigation and maintenance.
In accordance with common international aviation practices, the department has notified relevant entities, including the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, other civil aviation authorities, and the aircraft and engine manufacturers.
The department will continue to communicate closely with relevant parties and follow up on the investigation's progress.
