Cathay Pacific delivers Fosun Pharma/BioNTech vaccines to Hong Kong

This marks the first batch of 1m COVID-19 vaccines, developed by Fosun Pharma and BioNTech, delivered by the airline.

Cathay Pacific delivered a million doses of Fosun Pharma/BioNTech vaccines against COVID-19 to Hong Kong last weekend.

This is the first batch of doses to be supplied to Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific noted. The airline was also the first to deliver a million doses of Sinovac vaccines.

“Different vaccines have differing requirements. The Fosun Pharma/BioNTech vaccine must be transported in a deep frozen state, which requires more complex transportation and storage solutions,” Cathay Pacific director for cargo Tom Owen said.

“Our Vaccine Solution has proven itself to be ideally suited to the fast and effective distribution of this and other vaccines across the globe, using our freighter and passenger fleet, and our extensive global network,” he added.

Cathay Pacific's Vaccine Solution has been recognized by the United Nations’ COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access distribution initiative.

In the same flight, Cathay Pacific carried 200,000 doses of Sinovac vaccine bound for Mexico. Another shipment to Mexico, involving 800,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, will follow this week.

Moreover, Cathay Pacific Cargo will add two Boeing 777 cargo-only flights to operate on the Pharma Corridor between CEIV-certified airport communities of Brussels and Hong Kong each week.

The cargo terminal is being expanded to offer more temperature-controlled capacity and accommodate up to 8 million doses per day by the end of the year from 6.6 million presently.

It will also offer its Ultra Track for free for a near real time visibility during the shipment of the vaccines.
