Cathay Pacific to require 3rd dose for aircrew
The airline's move came after two of its freighter pilots contracted COVID.
Cathay Pacific will be requiring a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine for all its eligible aircrew.
All its employees, meanwhile, will be “strongly encouraged” to get a third dose “as early as possible.”
The airline has yet to disclose the implementation date for its new measure.
The move from the airline company came after two of their freighter pilots tested positive for COVID-19 in Hong Kong after they operated a cargo flight from Frankfurt.
Cathay Pacific said it has begun conducting an investigation into the cases and vowed to step up its compliance checks at overseas stations.
The airline said it also has been working with Hong Kong’s Transport and Housing Bureau and health authorities “to reinforce public health protection.”
“We will issue further guidelines to strengthen the requirements over aircrew’s movements in the local community during their medical surveillance periods,” the airlines said.
“We will also arrange our aircrew to undergo daily COVID-19 testing,” it added.
