Cathay Pacific traffic soars over 100% in September

Hong Kong’s flag carrier airline carried a total of 265,845 passengers.

Cathay Pacific reported its passenger traffic increased by 101.7% year-on-year to 265,845 in September 2022.

The airline also saw its revenue passenger kilometres rise by 102.2%YoY and its passenger load factor climb by 26.7% to 72.5% for the month. These are however still below their pre-pandemic level, the airline noted.

“Cathay Pacific’s travel business continued to show improvement in September, helped by student traffic from both Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland,” Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Ronald Lam said.

“Demand for student travel to the US tapered down from the second week of September, but this was balanced by growing demand among UK-bound student traffic.”

To meet this demand, Cathay Pacific increased the number of its flights between Hong Kong and the UK to 134 in September from only 111 in August.

The airline also added capacity on flights to Japan and Southeast Asia.
