China Airlines launches Hong Kong-Tainan service
Becomes first airline to fly from Tainan to Hong Kong.
China Airlines on July 18 launched its Tainan-Hong Kong route, providing regular international flights from Tainan Airport in southwest Taiwan.
China Airlines will offer the service on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday with its Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which seats 158 passengers. The Tainan-Hong Kong route will significantly cut travel time for residents of the Tainan, Chiayi, and Yunlin areas in southern Taiwan, who are travelling to Hong Kong or onwards to China. Prior to the new service, they had to fly from Kaohsiung International Airport.
All passengers on the first flight last week received a limited edition China Airlines plum blossom mug and the "Discover Hong Kong" Wi-Fi Tourist SIM Card from the Hong Kong Tourism Board and can be used for communication in Hong Kong.
China Airlines currently operates 159 flights a week to Hong Kong from four cities in Taiwan including 88 flights from Taoyuan, 28 flights from Taichung, 40 flights from Kaohsiung, and three flights from Tainan. China Airlines serves more destinations in Taiwan than any other airline that operates the Taiwan-Hong Kong route.
To celebrate the new service, China Airlines is offering special Tainan-Hong Kong fares starting at NT$7,050 for Economy Class.
