Dragonair expands network with Sendai and Okinawa

Addition of two Japan destinations aims to position Hong Kong as an international aviation hub.

Dragonair on Wednesday announced the airline will be resuming scheduled services to Sendai as well as formalising Okinawa as an online port with a continuous regular scheduled service. Dragonair’s network will expand to 33 cities with the addition of these two destinations, according to a Dragonair report.

Scheduled Okinawa services have been in operation since summer this year. With the growth in market demand, the twice-weekly route will continue with an Airbus A330 aircraft and become a formal Dragonair destination from 21 November. The thrice-weekly Sendai service will be a seasonal scheduled service using an Airbus A320 aircraft and will operate from 1 December until 27 February 2011.

"Following the resumption of the Fukuoka service in late October, we are very excited to further extend our network to another two destinations in Japan, bringing our award-winning world-class service to more of the Japanese market," says Dragonair Chief Executive Officer James Tong.

“The Sendai and Okinawa services show our long-term commitment not only to growing and expanding the Dragonair network, but also building and boosting Hong Kong’s international position as an aviation hub,” Mr Tong added.
