HKIA to achieve maximum capacity in 2015
It's targeting 68 flight movements per hour.
According to a report, Hong Kong airport’s two runways will reach their maximum capacity of 68 flight movements per hour in 2015.
Civil Aviation Department Assistant Director-General (Air Traffic Management) Manuel Sum said today the present number of 64 movements per hour is forecast to rise to 65 this winter, and then to 68 in two years.
A consultant predicted the figures according to International Civil Aviation Organisation procedure.
Last year 2,600 flights to Mainland were delayed by more than 15 minutes, which is 1.5% of total departure flights.
Hong Kong has reached consensus on the use of airspace in the Pearl River Delta region with Mainland and Macau civil aviation authorities, which will not affect the possibility of building a third runway at Hong Kong airport, Mr Sum said.
