HKIA passenger traffic up 0.8% to 6.32m passengers in April
Visitors to and from the Mainland and Japan buoyed monthly figures.
Passenger traffic at Hong Kong International Airport inched up 0.8% YoY to 6.32m passengers in April, according to a media release.
The slight growth in passenger traffic was driven by 10% YoY growth in visitor traffic with travelers to and from Mainland China and Japan registering significant increases.
Cargo and airmail throughput rose 4.8% YoY to 426,000 tonnes amidst a 17% growth in transshipments, with throughput for North America reaching a significant increase in April.
Hong Kong holds the title of the world’s largest air cargo centre after handling over 5m metric tonnes of cargo in 2017.

Over the first four months of the year, HKIA handled 24.7m passengers and 1.60m tonnes of cargo and airmail for year-on-year increases of 3.4% and 4.2% respectively. Flight movements increased 2.5% YoY to 139,935.
