HKIA passenger volume hits 6.04m in May
The number of visitors from Japan and the Mainland surged.
Hong Kong International Airport’s (HKIA) passenger volume rose at a faster pace after rising 1% YoY to 6.04m in May, according to a company statement.

Both domestic and international travel buoyed monthly passenger volumes with traffic to and from Japan and the Mainland registering the most significant increase.
The two other air traffic categories similarly rose with cargo and airmail throughput rising 4.3% YoY to 436,000 tonnes. Flight movements similarly edged up 1.6% YoY to 35,985.
Transshipments also rose 16% YoY, contributing the most to the growth in cargo throughput. Southeast Asia and India posted the most significant growth amongst key trading regions.

A new airline Air Belgium also launched its maiden route between Brussels South Charleroi Airport and HKIA in early June. Operating two flights per week, the direct flight service increases flight frequency from Hong Kong to Europe.
