HKIA taps SITA for its net zero carbon goal

The IT provider will aid the airport in tracking and monitoring its carbon emissions.

The Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has tapped air transport IT solutions, SITA, to help them track carbon emissions across the airport environment.

SITA's carbon management platform will collect and aggregate data on carbon emissions from different sources within the airport. SITA targets to deploy its platform at the HKIA by the summer of 2023.

The Envision Digital-backed platform also processes data into customizable dashboards for easy performance monitoring.

The platform will span scope 1 to 3 emissions and include data from 29 business partners across the airport value chain.

HKIA’s airport scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions stem largely from fossil fuel energy consumed to operate the terminal building, vehicles, and equipment. Meanwhile, scope 3 emissions or secondary emissions come from the airport’s value chain and business partners.

“The development of this new Carbon Management System will provide comprehensive, accurate carbon emissions tracking against the long-term target for both AAHK and each of our pledged business partners, and serves as a foundation for transparent reporting,”  Peter Lee, general manager, Sustainability Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK)  said.
