Hong Kong expands risk list in Return2HK scheme

Hong Kong residents coming from at-risk areas will no longer be exempted from quarantine.

The Hong Kong government will further make adjustments in the areas that will be included in its risk list under the Return2HK scheme.

The government had earlier adopted the risk list, issued by China’s National Health Commission, in implementing the Return2HK scheme.

The Return2HK scheme allows Hong Kong residents to return to the City from Mainland China without undergoing quarantine. However, residents coming from areas in Mainland China identified as medium or high-risk will be subjected to 14 days of quarantine.

To further adjust this, the Hong Kong government will also include areas with confirmed and infected cases to the list, as notified by the Mainland and Macao health authorities.

Residents who have stayed in at-risk areas within 14 days from their arrival in Hong Kong will not be exempted from the compulsory quarantine.

“We have also noted that Guangzhou has announced the stringent implementation of their control requirements, so as to ensure that persons who have stayed in medium or high-risk areas will not be able to leave the areas,” a government spokesman said.

“The public are also urged not to leave Guangzhou unless necessary. Meanwhile, those who have to leave Guangzhou will be required from noon on June 7 to hold a proof of negative nucleic acid test result obtained within 48 hours.”

Close communication will be maintained with the Mainland and Macao authorities, the government noted, adding it will adjust the risk list according to their continued assessment.
