United unveils first mobile boarding pass in Hong Kong
Carrier introduces travel experience that enhances convenience of customers flying from Hong Kong.
United Continental Holdings, Inc. on Thursday announced the launch of the first mobile boarding passes in Hong Kong. From now onwards, passengers flying with United from Hong Kong may check in at united.com using a Web-enabled mobile device within 24 hours before scheduled departure from Hong Kong International Airport and enjoy a total paperless travel experience by using mobile boarding pass.
“United is committed to leading technology to provide our customers with the best service possible.” said Walter Dias, managing director, Greater China & Korea, United Airlines. “The introduction of mobile boarding passes marks another key United customer enhancement in Hong Kong. Passengers are now empowered to enjoy more flexibility and control throughout their travel experience with United.”
Customers holding revenue itineraries and flying with all flight segments operated by United Airlines and/or United Express will be able to enjoy this feature. With just a few simple steps, customers can complete the check-in process with ease.
Dias continues. “I would like to extend my heartfelt thank to the support from the Airport Authority Hong Kong and the concerned department and team members to support this sustainable initiative in Hong Kong.”
United mobile boarding passes display a two-dimensional bar code along with customer and flight information, which scanners at the security checkpoint and boarding gate validate. A refresh of the mobile boarding pass will reflect any changes to seat assignments, gate changes and upgrade confirmations. The technology prevents manipulation or duplication of the boarding passes and heightens security.
United’s mobile boarding pass option is now available to customers departing from over 80 airports in the U.S. and international locations, including its hubs in Chicago, Denver, Washington Dulles, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Houston and Cleveland, according to a United Continental report.
In addition to using the more environmentally friendly paperless boarding pass option, customers may also use Web-enabled mobile devices to check flight status, flight availability, itineraries and Mileage Plus® accounts, and sign up for notification via email, phone or text message of any changes to flight status. With the My ItinerariesSM function, customers can view their itineraries and, in the event of missed connections, see the flights on which they have been automatically rebooked, rather than waiting in line at the airport for agent assistance.
