Bank branch in Vietnam receives no customers over 2 years

For the past two years, a branch of the Vietnam Development Bank has received no customer capable of meeting its criteria for loans.

As a non-profit bank under the management of the Government, VDB does not take deposits.

Nguyen Da Thanh, the branch director in the southern province of Binh Duong, explained that the branch specialised in offering loans for health, water supply and drainage and environmental projects, but no project in the last two years had met their criteria.

However, Le Thanh Cung, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, disagreed, saying that many projects in province were in need of capital and the provincial People’s Committee would introduce projects to the banks for consideration.

Cung strictly criticised the branch for its bad performance, saying that “What have the branch’s 32 staff done over the past two years?”
