Barclays appoints I.C. Liu as Taiwan investment banking head

Liu will oversee the bank’s advisory, capital raising and risk management businesses.

Barclays PLC has hired I.C. Liu as managing director and head of investment banking for Taiwan,

Liu will oversee the bank’s advisory, capital raising and risk management businesses. Barclays’ Taiwan branch is experiencing continuous earnings growth in its brokerage, advisory and foreign-exchange derivatives businesses.

The latter in particular is being boosted by improving ties with Mainland China, which will see customers demanding more foreign-exchange hedging products.

Liu was formerly chairman at EasyCard Corporation, a Taiwanese smart payment card company. He has also worked at J.P. Morgan & Chase Co. in New York and Hong Kong. His appointment comes after the departure of Barclays’ former chairman of Taiwan investment banking, Gary Kuo, who joined Citigroup Inc. in August 2011.

This June, Barclays said it had set up a new Taiwan-based equities research team covering non-tech companies, hiring analysts from Credit Suisse Group AG.
