CN Logistics forges a new path through sustainable business practices
This progressive industry leader is set to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
Sustainability is high on the agenda for many businesses worldwide. However, few have taken decisive steps to implement environment-friendly solutions across their operations. In Hong Kong, a top freight company, CN Logistics, is at the forefront of driving change and ensuring sustainability across its entire supply chain.
The company has recently launched CNL Green Solutions, a comprehensive initiative to transition into a circular business model and achieve carbon neutrality with its partners by 2030. This program works to develop customised solutions for its clients to streamline sustainable implementation at different steps of the supply chain.
A one-stop solution
CNL Green Solutions is focused on five key areas. In particular, these include providing one-stop green logistics solutions; ensuring a sustainable supply chain and waste reduction at source; investing in clean transportation; working with trusted recycling partners to reduce, reuse, recycle, and recreate recycled materials; and providing a carbon consultation service.
For instance, the company works with qualified recycling partners to help its clients implement tailored recommendations to explore potential opportunities to start or expand recycling practices.
Green logistics is another key aspect of CNL’s business transformation. As part of this effort, the company launched electric vehicles in 2018 dedicated to Hong Kong’s and China’s domestic courier services. This maximises the adoption of clean transportation and reduces carbon emissions. CNL also helps its clients streamline their own carbon footprint by providing logistics services such as sorting of recycled products. In 2021, it aims to increase its collection of recycled tonnage by 100%. To date, the company has collected over 70% of its 824.54 target tonnage.
To provide sustainable logistics solutions for its clients, CNL ensures recurring meetings to better understand the developing goals of each brand. By further reviewing and comprehending the supply chain flow of a client’s business, CNL’s teams can offer customised solutions to fit their specific needs. These supply chain consultations allow both parties to co-create a sustainable business together.
Working with the community
CNL is not alone in its effort to achieve sustainability. The company collaborates with various organisations to maximise the impact of its projects.
For instance, CNL has been certified by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change for voluntary cancellation in the Clean Development Mechanism registry. Through this, the company has committed to contribute to climate action and offset carbon dioxide emissions.
CNL has also been supporting trustworthy climate-friendly projects through the United Nations Carbon Offset Platform. The funded carbon offset program includes the Salkhit Wind Farm in Mongolia and the Burgos Wind Farm Project in the Philippines, cancelling 6,403 tonnes of carbon dioxide between 2020 to 2021.
CNL has pledged to the Hong Kong Business Environment Council Low Carbon Charter signatories to achieve decarbonisation. In April 2021, CNL began a strategic partnership with Redress, a charity that aims to reduce textile waste to catalyse a circular economy. Since the beginning of this partnership, CNL has been able to increase clothing tonnage collected by 375%.
The company’s efforts have also been recognised by the UNESCO HK Association Glocal Peace Centre, SocietyNext Foundation, and the Rotary Action Group for Peace. Moving forward, CNL remains committed to working with various stakeholders in its goal of promoting sustainability and business resilience.
