Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards recognises Lenovo’s Green Tech Advocacy with its CO2 Offset Service
Lenovo Hong Kong was recognised for introducing customers to an intelligent way of building a greener tomorrow.
As a digital industry leader for decades, Lenovo has a robust lineup of devices like PCs, and servers, as well as solutions and services. To take the initiative in the technology industry, Lenovo has been putting much effort into reducing carbon emissions for more than 16 years, to bring a greener future to all humankind.
In recent news, Lenovo's CO2 Offset Service won the Sustainable Technology - IT Services award at the recently concluded Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards hosted by Hong Kong Business. The awards programme honours companies that have made exceptional contributions in pursuit of technological innovation. The programme crowns the top-rated and innovative ideas, businesses, and IT initiatives and solutions that have contributed to business and industry in Hong Kong.
About Lenovo CO2 Offset Service
When businesses buy and select Lenovo Think devices, Lenovo provides them with the option to offset carbon emissions at the point of purchase. The customer can take the service with the newly purchased devices or for existing ones bought less than three years ago.
The unique proposition of Lenovo's CO2 Offset Service is that it makes offsetting carbon emissions simple and controllable. With just a click of a button, customers can project carbon emissions for every device across an average five-year lifecycle, covering production, shipment, and typical usage cycle.
The judging panel of the Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards chose Lenovo based on its top three achievements. First, Lenovo helped a leading Hong Kong financial services institution cut its CO2 production by a whopping 1,000 tons. In addition, a Hong Kong utility company cut its CO2 emission by 367 tons, and a Macau education institution reduced CO2 production by 500 tons with Lenovo's CO2 Offset Service.
To partner with customers in their sustainability agenda, Lenovo collaborates with leading certified providers of CO2 Offset Services. One of the company's current partners is Clime Co, a global sustainability company established in the U.S. over a decade ago. Lenovo also received the Project Developer of the Year award from the Climate Action Reserve.
Moreover, Lenovo’s CO2 Offset Service supports several sustainability initiatives, including new or extensions of existing projects like windmills, solar cells, and biomass energy. In addition, forestation and forest conservation are some areas Lenovo hopes to contribute to in the future.
Today, Lenovo is the only vendor that provides solid proof of compensating for CO2 emissions, allowing its customers to give back to the environment in a tangible manner. In fact, it is the first electronics manufacturer to receive a DEKRA certification for carbon footprint calculation.
Carbon offset presents a new way forward for environmentally sustainable procurement, raising the bar for companies to aspire to and paving the way for future corporate purchases to be aligned with ESG goals.
Looking ahead
Lenovo’s vision is to reinvent product labels to include eco-transparency and carbon offset information. It hopes to make this the gold standard for all Lenovo products and services.
