Lenovo PCCW Solutions champions AI for occupational safety and accident prevention
The technology addresses workplace safety with an innovative approach, providing previously impossible ways to prevent and detect accidents in real time.
Lenovo PCCW Solutions (LPS) has been acknowledged at the coveted HKB Technology Excellence Awards, winning the AI - Government category in recognition of the company’s cutting-edge AI video analytics solution for occupational health and safety.
The esteemed event celebrates innovation and excellence in Hong Kong's dynamic tech landscape, highlighting companies that lead the way in technological disruptions within their industries.
Occupational safety and accident prevention are a critical part of protecting worker welfare, with latest workplace safety statistics from the Labour Department showing that fall-related accidents are the most common accidents amongst several industries, including construction, manufacturing, and F&B.
As a trusted IT partner of the Hong Kong Government for over two decades, LPS developed a cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) solution, building specialised AI models from the ground up to enable intelligent video analytics to support and ensure worker safety in outdoor worksites in real-time. With its ease of deployment, accessible platform, and powerful AI capabilities, LPS’ solution stands out as a versatile resource that can be used to bolster the public safety and well-being of the community at large.
The full-featured AI solution was built in-house, with the end-to-end package incorporating video data collection, AI model training, and EDGE processing, amongst others. It can be customised to address physical site limitations by fine-tuning and training it to perform in multiple challenging detection scenarios with limited video resolution. With AI-enabled cameras, the EDGE system can detect safety equipment, including helmets, harnesses, safety vests, and more.
These capabilities allow overseers to proactively ensure that workers are taking necessary precautions to minimise accident risk through real-time monitoring and alerts.
The AI models are also trained to recognise falls, allowing for immediate incident response in both pedestrian and workplace environments. By collecting data onsite, the technology further ensures optimal growth and continuous improvement to the detection accuracy and adaptability of the AI in real-life scenarios, strengthening compliance with occupational safety and health regulation.
On top of their main functions, all AI cameras come with preinstalled face-blurring abilities, ensuring that the privacy of workers and the public are protected at all times.

We will continue to collaborate with governments and enterprises as a trusted technology partner to enable accessible AI for All, driving smarter and more sustainable cities in Hong Kong and the Asia Pacific.” said CM Lee, Head of Smart Engineering and Digital, LPS.
With the success of this game-changing solution, LPS has found a viable solution model that can be scaled up at any time. With the learning power of AI, the solution will also continue to accumulate intelligence after delivery, continuously acquiring new data to better serve their role as protectors of public safety.
