Promoting post-retirement investment in an increasingly ageing population

Fidelity’s Flexible Retirement Solution allows retirees to secure their desired retirement through comprehensive products and services.

The ageing population has been given increasing attention as it is projected that two out of every five Hongkongers will turn elderly by 2069. Many Hong Kong citizens can live to be as old as 80 years old or beyond. However, a longer life span entails more expenses as well as a need for better retirement planning.

As one of the largest mandatory provident fund (MPF) scheme providers in Hong Kong, financial services company Fidelity International has observed the evolving trend of the city’s growing ageing population and sees the demand for post-retirement solutions to accommodate the MPF members’ needs to generate a stable retirement income.

With that, the firm launched the Fidelity MPF Flexible Retirement Solution in November 2021, with comprehensive products and services to help members secure their desired retirement life.

To help members maintain asset purchasing power in the long term and keep their assets invested and growing amidst inflation, it also launched the Fidelity Retirement Master Trust – RetireEasy Fund, a diversified mixed asset post-retirement investment solution that aims to achieve a stable overall return that is higher than Hong Kong inflation over the course of MPF members’ retirement journey.

The RetireEasy Fund can be one of the ideal solutions, enabling its scheme members to continue investing for continued investment growth during retirement. Fidelity’s investment experts actively allocate riskier and defensive assets, intending to seize potential investment opportunities and help mitigate market risk through dynamic asset allocation.

Moreover, the company leveraged technology and digital capability to introduce the first-in-market MPF e-withdrawal platform for retirees and soon-to-retire MPF members and let them manage their investments and withdrawals hassle-free throughout the retirement period. 

The platform provides members with the flexibility to stay invested in a familiar scheme to benefit from continued investment growth potential whilst withdrawing their retirement assets in stages according to their preferred amount and frequency. It also allows them to amend their withdrawal requests with ease and paper-free.

The Flexible Retirement Solution innovation is backed by an all-around communication campaign to raise public awareness of the importance of a holistic post-retirement solution. The promotions included outdoor advertising, digital banners, social media, press releases, educational articles, and a series of videos to drive traffic to dedicated web pages. 

Fidelity’s capabilities in catering for the evolving needs of retirement have been recognised by the Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards 2022, as it received the award in the Web Services - Financial Services category.
