Vastcom attains Technology Excellence Award for Cybersecurity – Hospitality & Leisure

To protect the customer data and profitability of a client in the gaming industry, Vastcom proposed a superior security strategy in line with current regulatory requirements.

As technology becomes an indispensable element of enterprise success today, Hong Kong Business has launched the Technology Excellence Awards to appreciate the accomplishments of firms offering high-quality products, services, and strategies based on technological innovation. This year, the prize for the category of Cybersecurity – Hospitality & Leisure was awarded to Vastcom Technology Ltd. for its project to help a Macau-based luxury gaming and hotel operator in protecting personal identifiable information and payment card industry data, and complying with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation.

Data protection has become a priority for businesses, especially those that handle millions of dollars every day. Vastcom’s award-winning project started when the client realised the need to protect the data of over 10,000 employees and the personal and credit card information of millions of customers. Security breaches are particularly damaging to the gaming industry because large amounts of money could be lost when customer profiles and financial backgrounds are threatened or stolen. Vastcom implemented a new cybersecurity strategy based on advanced automation and in accordance with current regulatory requirements. Vastcom evaluated the client’s needs by considering ease of implementation, discovery of sensitive (including structured and unstructured) data across the entire enterprise network, a rich set of integration features with their existing security management tools like security information and event management, and multiple remediation capability.

The solution came in the form of Enterprise Recon, a product of Ground Labs. Enterprise Recon has a low-impact design that complements and strengthens a user’s data loss prevention capabilities. As this product is pre-configured and involves a virtual machine, it can be deployed in only 30 minutes. By allowing the client to discover, monitor, and remediate sensitive data across its network, Enterprise Recon facilitated the replacement of previous manual searching methods with an automated data discovery solution. As a result, the client’s security team was able to implement advanced tools in data management and monitoring, thus identifying the areas where additional resources are needed to mitigate risk.

The Technology Excellence Awards 2019, presented by Hong Kong Business, was held on February 27, 2019 at the Conrad Hong Kong.
