Consumer prices in Hong Kong inched up by 1.9%

Food, housing, and transport prices rose.

Overall consumer prices rose 1.9% year-on-year in June, the Census & Statistics Department said.

Netting out effects of the Government's one-off relief measures, the underlying inflation rate was also 1.9%, slightly lower than the previous month.

Year-on-year price increases were recorded in June for meals bought away from home, housing, transport, food (excluding meals bought away from home), and miscellaneous services and goods.

Year-on-year price decreases were recorded for durable goods, clothing and footwear, electricity, gas and water, as well as alcohol and tobacco.

The department said consumer price inflation stayed moderate and eased slightly in June as external price pressure was low and local costs continued to increase steadily.
