HK manufacturing's production index edges up 5.6% YoY in Q2
Meanwhile, its corresponding producer price index also increased by 2.7%.
The Census and Statistics Department (CS&D) has released the provisional results of the industrial production and producer price indices on 13 September.
The production index for manufacturing industries increased by 5.6% year-on-year (YoY) in the second quarter (Q2) of 2021. This is higher compared to the 2.6% YoY increase in the first quarter (Q1) of 2021. The corresponding producer price index increased by 2.7% in Q2 2021 compared with a year earlier, following a YoY increase of 1.9% in Q1 2021.
The index of industrial production for sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities increased YoY by 1.6% in Q2 2021; following a YoY increase of 1.6% in Q1 2021. The corresponding producer price index increased by 4.7% YoY in Q2 of 2021, following a YoY increase of 1.2% in Q1 2021.
Increases in output volume were recorded mainly in the food, beverages and tobacco industry (+7.1%); the paper products, printing, and reproduction of recorded media industry (+2.7%); and the textiles and wearing apparel industry (+1.5%). On the other hand, a decrease in output volume was recorded in the metal, computer, electronic and optical products, machinery and equipment industry (-2.3%).
