Hong Kong to do reclamation
Government plans to reclaim land and appeals for support from green groups.
Secretary for Development Paul Chan said the government will not harm any marine life in Hong Kong, and will try to find a solution for any creatures affected by proposed reclamation.
He said the government is sincere in forming a widely acceptable solution to resolve the land shortage problem in the city.
On the building of artificial islands, Chan said the exact location of the islands will depend on their use. He said the government wants to listen to more views before making a decision.
He said the islands can be more remotely located if they are to house community facilities from the urban area, but the government must take into account the transport network and its cost.
He said the government will also consider technical feasibility and cost effectiveness when considering removing its facilities into rock caverns.
