Education will be the single largest spending area with estimated recurrent expenditure for 2013-14 of $63 billion, representing more than one-fifth of total recurrent government expenditure, as stated in Financial Secretary John Tsang's 2013 Budget speech delivered today.
He proposed injecting $5 billion into the Language Fund and earmarked an additional $480 million for the Government Scholarship Fund to set up scholarships for outstanding local students to pursue studies in prestigious overseas universities.
