Government bans poultry product imports from Germany

Public warned against outbreak of low-pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza.

According to a report, the Centre for Food Safety today banned all poultry-product imports from the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The World Organisation for Animal Health notified the centre about an outbreak of low-pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza on a poultry farm there.

Hong Kong imported bout 10,000 tonnes of frozen poultry and 2.8 million eggs from Germany last year.

The centre has contacted the German authorities and will closely monitor information the organisation issues on German bird flu outbreaks.
