Here’s how much Hong Kongers spend on food delivery
The average monthly spending increased by 22% in 2022.
More than 23% of consumers in Hong Kong spend over $2,000 monthly in 2022, up from only 12% in 2019, Deliveroo reported in its latest consumer survey.
The average amount Hong Kongers spend per month has also increased by 22% to $1,334 in 2022 from $1,095 in 2019.
The survey, conducted by Censuswide in September 2022, explored the habits of some 1,000 Hong Kong consumers.
Despite increases in spending, the report found that there is a “notable” differences across districts.

The highest monthly spending was seen in Wan Chai ($1,844), Central and Western ($1,810), and Yuen Long (HK$1,678).
Consumers in Hong Kong Island are also more likely to reward themselves with food delivery (22%), compared to those in Kowloon (14%) and New Territories (15%).
The survey also found a rise in the popularity of food delivery services amongst more mature generations.
More than 4 in 5 (83%) respondents aged 46-55 acknowledge a year-on-year increase in food delivery service use (compared to the overall average of 77%).
More than three-quarters (76%) of respondents aged 46-55 indicated that they will maintain or increase their use of food delivery services in the next year (compared to the overall average of 72%).
