HK mulls further easing of COVID restrictions in May

The easing is part of the three-stage relaxation that CE Lam announced in March.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam said the government will further ease COVID restrictions in May unless another surge occurs in the city.

In a speech, Lam said Hong Kong is already "on the path to resuming normal activities" three months after the fifth wave hit the city.

Earlier in March, Lam announced a three-stage relaxation of measures.

The first stage, which has already been rolled out,  made "many" Hong Kong people and many restaurant operators "very happy," according to Lam.

"We will continue to press ahead with the three stages of relaxation...unless there is a sudden surge in COVID-19 infection cases, but that looks quite unlikely based on our observations and the experts’ advice because of the high level of hybrid immunity that Hong Kong has achieved," Lam said.
