Hong Kong puts in place safeguards for outside talent

Healthcare talents will face a rigorous assessment and on-the-job evaluation.

The Hong Kong government has put in place safeguards for outside talents, Health Secretary Lo Chung-mau said.

Secretary Lo said health care talents will face a rigorous assessment before being recruited. Talents will also be subjected to an on-the-job evaluation.

“We have to stop the current vicious cycle when we have a high attrition and wastage rate in our staff, resulting in a worse working environment for them,” Lo said.

“We want to create a positive spin to increase our manpower, and that would help to improve their working conditions and set up a positive spiral.”

Lo noted the healthcare professionals will particularly be assessed by the Hospital Authority

“Once they are in service, we have on-the-job supervision by the respective teams, including experienced nurses and doctors, to supervise the work of these newly recruited staff from overseas,” he added.
