HK expects 10 million passengers during National Day
October 1 is projected to be the peak day for land travel.
The Immigration Department estimates that around 10.03 million passengers will pass through Hong Kong’s sea, land, and air control points during the National Day festive period from 28 September to 7 October.
Of these, approximately 8.54 million passengers are expected to use land boundary control points, with higher traffic on 1 October, when about 523,000 outbound and 632,000 inbound passengers are anticipated.
The Lo Wu Control Point is forecast to see a daily average of around 208,000 passengers, whilst the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line and Shenzhen Bay Control Points are expected to handle approximately 185,000 and 118,000 passengers, respectively.
To manage the increased traffic, the department has minimised leave for frontline officers and will operate extra clearance counters and kiosks. Additional security guards will be deployed for crowd management.
The department will also coordinate with Mainland authorities and set up a joint command centre at the Lo Wu Control Point with the police, whilst Customs and the MTR Corporation will closely monitor passenger conditions.
Travellers are advised to plan ahead, avoid peak travel times, and use the department’s website or app to check rush hours and estimated waiting times.
