HK clinches 6th spot in data centre global rankings

In the Asia-Pacific, Hong Kong ranked second.

Hong Kong broke into the top 10 of Cushman & Wakefield's data centre global mark ranking, placing sixth in its 2022 edition.

Amongst the Asia-Pacific markets in the list, Hong Kong had the second-highest ranking, behind Singapore, which placed third globally.

In terms of market size, Hong Kong ranked 10th globally.

“The city also retains its crown as the globally lowest taxed data center jurisdiction,” added John Siu, managing director, Hong Kong at Cushman & Wakefield.

In the next five years, Siu said Hong Kong’s total new supply will amount to 5.5 million sf.

“That said, the supply pipeline in the medium to long term will be constrained by shortage of land and power supply in the popular data centre submarkets, such as Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung,” the analyst said.

To address the possible challenges to the city’s data centre market, Siu said the government, align with power supplies, should “break the bottleneck and increase land supply and power capacity into these submarkets."
