Hang Seng Indexes to kill iBond Index Series
The last iBond index constituent will mature in June 2019.
Hang Seng Indexes (HSI) will terminate its iBond Index Series, an announcement revealed.
Launched in 2013, the iBond Index Series aims to provide the market with a comprehensive benchmark for the general performance of iBonds issued by the government and listed on the local stock exchange.
The government has issued six iBonds since 2011. According to HSI, an investor who had held a portfolio that tracked the Hang Seng iBond Composite Total Return Index since its base date would have realised an annualised return of around 3.1% over the past eight years.
The last iBond index constituent, HKGB iBond 1906, will mature in June 2019. “Accordingly, publication of the Hang Seng iBond Index Series will be discontinued,” HSI said.
Termination of the Hang Seng iBond 1906 Total Return Index and Hang Seng iBond Composite Total Return Index will come into effect on 19 June.
