
Almost 4 in 10 Hong Kong adults invested in the stock market
Stock investors hold $200,000 in stockholdings.
The Hong Kong Stock Exchange recently published the Retail Investor Survey 2014.
According to a research note from Barclays, it found that there are 2.265mn individuals investing in the stock market.
The note said this accounts for 36.4% of Hong Kong’s adult population.

Including those who did not hold any stocks (i.e. HKEx cash market products at the time of interview), stock investors held a median value of HK$200,000 in stockholdings (up 54% from HK$130,000 in 2011, compared with an increase of 43% in the total market capitalisation of the HKEx stock market).
The majority of their stock holdings were listed company shares and the majority of them (53%) held only listed company shares and no other cash market products.
