13 sites get a nod for rezoning to residential use

They can yield up to 23,000 flats.

Thirteen locations in Tai Po, Sha Tin, Tuen Mun, Yuen Long and Sai Kung districts which are devegetated, deserted or formed Green Belt sites have been recommended for rezoning to residential use, Secretary for Development Paul Chan says.

In reply to lawmakers' questions today, Mr Chan said the 2013 Policy Address tabled measures to increase housing land supply, one of which is to rezone 13 devegetated, deserted or formed Green Belt sites to residential use, as recommended in the Planning Department's Stage 1 Green Belt Review.

He said the sites have a total area of 57 hectares and will provide 23,000 flats.

Rezoning of one of the sites located at the junction of Clear Water Bay Road and Pik Sha Road for residential use was gazetted on May 10.

For the remaining 12 sites, he said nine rezoning procedures will be completed by late next year, and the rezoning of the other three sites will be completed as soon as possible afterwards.

The Stage 2 review is underway to find more sites with residential development potential to meet the public housing demand, he added.
