Kowloon City site set for revamping
The site's project area is 1,622 sqm. which the URA wants to redevelop to provide 180 units of 35 to 65 sqm.
The Urban Renewal Authority on Friday started the statutory planning procedures for a new redevelopment project on Kowloon City Road and Sheung Heung Road.
The project affects 118 property interests, and the total development cost is estimated to reach $1.192 billion. About 280 households are involved.
The authority said the living environment of the households is unsatisfactory because the buildings are dilapidated. Built in 1950s, the 16 street numbers of buildings within the project area are up to eight storeys high with no lifts and have unauthorised rooftop structures.
The project area is 1,622 square metres. The authority plans to redevelop the site to provide 180 units of 35 to 65 square metres. It is tentatively scheduled for completion in 2019-2020.
An urban renewal social service team staffed by the Salvation Army will provide counselling and assistance to the affected residents.
