Subdivided units poll launched
170,000 residents living in subdivided units.
Acording to a report, More than 170,000 people are living in subdivided units in Hong Kong, Secretary for Transport & Housing Prof Anthony Cheung said today.
Speaking after the Long Term Housing Strategy Steering Committee meeting today, Prof Cheung released a final report on a survey of subdivided units in the city.
The survey was conducted from January to April, and private domestic/composite buildings aged 25 years were targeted to estimate the number of subdivided units in Hong Kong.
About 6,400 households living in more than 1,800 private domestic/composite buildings were interviewed.
The independent organisation that conducted the survey estimated there are about 66,900 subdivided units with about 171,300 people living in them, he said.
Almost half of the units - about 30,600 of them - do not have a kitchen, toilet, nor water supply.
He said the units are more common in old buildings, and the committee would make reference to the survey findings to project the long-term housing demand to prepare its recommendations.
