6,800 more flats to be built in Kai Tak

It will ba 20% boost.

According to Secretary for Development Paul Chan, the Kai Tak new development area's density may increase 20% to provide about 6,800 more flats for 20,000 people.

Speaking after attending a radio programme, Mr Chan said the Policy Address proposed to increase the development density in some areas by 20%. In the Kai Tak area, raising the height limit would allow the density increase.

The Government will consider other planning factors such as transportation, air quality and sewage works, he said, adding that a density increase will be approved only after the overall plan has been evaluated and shown not to have unacceptable impacts.

Mr Chan stressed there are great demands for public and private housing, and he hoped the community will support the Government to increase land supply.
