Hong Kong begins relocation of Nam Cheong 220

The Housing Bureau relocated the modules to another housing project in Wong Yue Tan.

The Hong Kong Government announced that the Housing Bureau began relocating the Nam Cheong 220, the city’s first transitional structural steel social housing project housing that adopted the modular integrated construction (MiC) method.

The modules will be moved to Wong Yue Tan, Tai Po from their original location on Nam Cheong Street in Sham Sui Po. The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society Kowloon will be reusing these modules for another transitional housing project they are operating.

The MiC method will reduce the housing project’s construction time, and assembling the units will take less than a year.

Since its operation in 2020, the Nam Cheong 220 did house a total of 175 residents of 94 households.

The Nam Cheong 220 is one of the 20,000 transitional housing units that the Hong Government’s Housing Bureau identified. They completed more than 6,900 units, while they expected about 9,500 units to finish by the end of the year.
