Housing Society trials public housing scheme for the elderly: report
It could cost around $80m and is expected to be completed by 2020.
The Housing Society is trialling a public housing scheme for the elderly made up of prefabricated steel units in an effort to provide cheap residential alternatives for its rapidly ageing population, South China Morning Post reported.

This project is said to be the first permanent residential block built with prefabricated technology, cutting the expected construction time from four years to two and reduce costs from $1m to roughly $600,000 per flat.

It could cost around $80m and slated for completion by 2020.
The tower will be made up of ten storeys across a 4,000sqft site. It would have large entrances and doors with handrails installed along the corridors and recreational facilities, in consideration to the elderly.
The prefabricated units are capable of lasting for about 60 years.
