Lands Department to continue works at Mong Kok site
The resumption is for the enforcement of an urban renewal project.
The Lands Department declared the resumption of land at Shantung Street or Thistle Street in Mong Kok to give way for the 2,796 square metre (sq m) urban renewal project.
Under the urban Renewal Authority’s Business Plan for 2020-2021, the project will produce 177 private property interests resumed under the Lands Resumption Ordinance.
Such site will be redeveloped for residential use with retail and commercial facilities, underground ancillary parking, and loading and unloading facilities.
There will also be a sunken plaza, a public open space, and government, institution or community facilities will also be provided.
“The affected interests will revert to the Government three months from the date on which the resumption notices are affixed on-site,” the government said.
Qualified domestic property owners will get statutory compensation and an ex-gratia home purchase allowance or a supplementary allowance.
Qualified domestic tenants will be offered rehousing or an ex-gratia allowance whilst eligible commercial property occupiers, including owners and tenants, may opt for an ex-gratia allowance in lieu of the right to claim statutory compensation for business and related losses.
