Chart of the Week: Malaysian banks' total deposits dip for the fourth consecutive month

It fell 0.8% YoY in June.

System deposits contracted 0.8% YoY, this being the fourth consecutive month of contraction, according to Maybank Kim Eng. On a MoM basis, total deposits were flat. CASA also contracted by 0.4% YoY in June, after having expanded temporarily by 0.4% YoY in May.

"Taking a look at deposit growth by holder, individual deposit growth hit a new low of 4.4% YoY in June (+4.7% YoY in May). Business deposits contracted 0.8% YoY while financial institution deposits contracted 9.6% YoY. Government deposits were flat YoY."
