Application for toll increase rejected
The Chief Executive-in-Council blocked the hike proposal from the New Hong Kong Tunnel Company amidst strong objection from the Legislative Council.
The proposed increase was for the Eastern Harbour Crossing.
A news.gov.hk report said, “The tunnel company applied to hike tolls for cars and taxis by $10, or 40%, with a proportionate increase for other vehicles. However, the Transport & Housing Bureau said the company's justification for the increase was insufficient.”
The Legislative Council was reportedly consulted twice on the application.
