Hong Kong inks intermodal transport pact with the Mainland
Passengers traveling by air can take sea or land transport using the same air ticket.
Secretary for Transport & Housing Bureau Frank Chan and Deputy Administrator Wang Zhiqing of the Civil Aviation Authority of China have signed an intermodal pact which aims to expand their respective transport networks.
According to a press release, the deal provides a new intermodal scheme under the Air Services Arrangement which allows airlines from both Hong Kong and the Mainland to launch intermodal code-sharing services with sea and land transport operators.
Operators can now share flight codes and enable air-to-sea and air-to-land services to be available in the Global Distribution System which means that passengers traveling by air can take sea or land transport using the same air ticket.
The deal highlights Hong Kong’s status as an international aviation hub and will accelerate the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, Mr Chan added.
