Lung Mei Beach works project to go as planned
The water quality is expected to be up to the required standard for swimming by 2015.
According to a release, the Lung Mei Beach works project will be implemented as planned following consultations, studies and research according to established procedures.
The Government is installing a new sewage network at Lung Mei. The water quality has shown marked improvement lately and upon the opening of the Lung Mei Beach in 2015, the water quality is expected to be up to the required standard for swimming.
The Tai Po District Council proposed the beach in 2000. The Government then conducted a series of consultations, studies and research works.
In addition to consulting green groups on the works project, consultations were also held with the Advisory Council on the Environment, Town Planning Board, Panel on Home Affairs, Public Works Subcommittee and Legislative Council Finance Committee.
The Tai Po District Council supports the project and endorsed a motion at a meeting on November 1 to support the implementation of the Ting Kok Coastal Conservation Plan, requesting the project's swift implementation and seeking to enhance the coastal conservation at Ting Kok.
The Government believes that development and conservation could go hand-in-hand and will continue to communicate with the community, including green groups. The departments concerned will adopt mitigation measures during construction to minimise any impact on the marine ecology.
