Mass Transit Railway fare consultation extended till November 18

According to a statement, the deadline for submitting views on the fare adjustment mechanism for the Mass Transit Railway will be extended from October 31 to November 18, the Transport Department says.

The existing mechanism is a direct-drive formula that takes into account changes in the Composite Consumer Price Index, the Nominal Wage Index of the Transportation Section as well as pre-determined productivity factor.

Based on the data of these objective indices, fares are maintained or adjusted upward or downward annually.
