Trial scheme for new parking meters kicks off
Government eyes contactless smart cards.
According to a report, the Transport Department has invited interested parties to partake in a month-long market research exercise on new parking meters.
The department said today a trial scheme for a new generation of parking meters will be conducted, as the lifespan of existing meters will soon come to an end.
The exercise invites expressions of interest and ideas on the supply, installation, operation and maintenance of new meters, including system design, operation flow, payment methods and costs.
The trial scheme will assess technical feasibility and public acceptance of new features, such as contactless smart cards.
The Electrical & Mechanical Services Department will be the consultant for the trial scheme.
