Government reviews MTR fare adjustment scheme

According to a report, the five-yearly review of the MTR Fare Adjustment Mechanism, jointly conducted by the Government and the MTR Corporation, is still under way.

At a media session after a Legislative Council Panel on Financial Affairs and Panel on Housing joint meeting on March 26, Secretary for Transport & Housing Prof Anthony Cheung said the review should address three key elements - the corporation’s profit level, its service performance, and public affordability.

Prof Cheung added that both sides share the objective to modify the fare-adjustment mechanism so it covers these three elements, and aim to conclude the review before MTR fares are adjusted in June.
