Sales of Tesla electric cars surge in HK
Doubles the number of electric cars in the city.
Sales of Tesla’s flagship Model S electric sedan rose to a record on orders from Hong Kong, said Kenneth Lui, Tesla’s Hong Kong sales manager.
Demand for the Tesla Model S is rising with Tesla reporting more than 300 pre-orders for its popular Model S, which will go on sale in Hong Kong later this year. There were only 303 registered private electric cars in Hong Kong in April.
“Our number is over all electric cars in Hong Kong combined,” said Lui. Prices of the Model S will be revealed in a few months. Company executives initially said the Model S would cost some HK$600,000.
The Model S was the top selling plug-in electric car in North America during the first quarter of 2013 with 4,900 cars sold. it has won numerous awards and recognition such as the 2013 World Green Car of the Year and 2013 Motor Trend Car of the Year.
